HALA and MHA and perhaps other acronyms that I've forgotten are now ancient history. As the city seeks to foster more affordable housing — and housing of any kind, but chiefly apartments, our focus here — it's turning its attention to DRBs. Those design review boards are, depending on your perspective, pesky hindrances to housing creation or noble bastions of architectural merit.
As part of the city's One Seattle initiative, public hearings will be held on June 26 and 28 to consider a number of updates and changes to our municipal land use code. They're contained in an omnibus bill likely to receive a favorable council vote this year.
