Port of Seattle

Springmann

Linda Springmann has been hired by the Port of Seattle as the new director of cruise and maritime marketing, bringing more than 25 years of cruise industry experience to the position. Springmann comes from Holland America Line, where she was vice president of onboard revenue for the Holland America/Princess Cruises/Seabourn brands, vice president of deployment and itinerary planning for Holland America Line and Seabourn Cruises, vice president of Alaska marketing, and director of product marketing for Holland America Line. She served as a member of the Alaska Travel Industry Association for eight years, and as chair of the marketing committee.

Pemco

Pemco Mutual Insurance hired Scott Newman as director of risk management and internal audit. Newman is returning to Pemco after previously serving as the company's director of internal audit, and brings more than two decades of experience in leading risk and audit teams for organizations across the Northwest. Most recently, he was senior vice president and general auditor for Tacoma-based Columbia Bank, where he directed the institution's audit and loan review functions and oversaw the bank's governance, risk management and internal control processes. Prior to that, he was Russell Investment's director of internal audit.

Sage Bionetworks

Sage Bionetworks appointed Kim Baggett as chief operations officer. Baggett joins Sage after 15 years at Seattle Children's Research Institute, where she was most recently vice president, center business operations. During her tenure, Baggett was a leader in setting strategic direction for research, and was responsible for the business operations for all the research centers spanning basic, translational, clinical and health outcomes. Baggett received her master's degree in public administration from Seattle University, her bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, and is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Tomorrow. Sage is a nonprofit health research organization based in Seattle.

Symetra

Symetra announced National Park Trust as its first national environmental partner. Dedicated to preserving the country's national parks and to environmental education, National Park Trust is working to create a pipeline of future park stewards by connecting kids to parks. Symetra has committed $150,000 to the organization through 2025 to fund access and education programming for underserved youth. National Park Trust's Buddy Bison school program helps more than 20,000 students in 40 states annually connect with parks. Prioritizing environmental sustainability is one of the core commitments of Symetra's newly launched corporate social responsibility initiative, Symetra Social Impact. Over the next three years, the program aims to drive transformation across three priority areas — social commitments, sustainability and governance — through goals aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Symetra is a diversified financial services company based in Bellevue.

Bowie

The state Department of Social and Health Services appointed Tony Bowie as assistant secretary for the agency's Economic Services Administration, effective May 1. Bowie has served since August 2021 as interim CEO at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, and was previously CEO at the agency's Child Study and Treatment Center in Steilacoom. A 15-year DSHS employee, Bowie began his DSHS career as a security officer at Echo Glen Children's Center and was promoted to several leadership positions within the former Juvenile Justice and Rehabilitation Administration. He later worked at the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island as director of transition and accountability and deputy CEO. Nicole Ross has served as acting assistant secretary of ESA since former assistant secretary David Stillman's retirement in December. Ross will continue in this role until April 30, when she will resume her deputy assistant secretary position. ESA administers food, cash and medical benefits, as well as child support and Social Security disability determination services.

Leafly Holdings

Boulware

Seattle-based Leafly Holdings, an online resource for cannabis consumers, announced that Deidre Boulware will join the company as chief people officer. Boulware will be in charge of talent acquisition and sourcing, talent management and development, and total rewards. She will also lead the development and implementation of the company's enterprise-wide equity, diversity and inclusion strategy. Prior to joining Leafly, Boulware was vice president and head of talent, development and diversity for American Century Investments. She also served as global head of human resources for US Pharmacopeia and has held senior roles at major financial services firms including Willis Towers Watson, Capital One, Ally Financial and Wachovia Securities.

Convoy

In Seattle, digital freight network Convoy appointed Sonia Jain as chief financial officer, effective April 25. Jain will assume the role from Convoy's President and CEO Mark Okerstrom, who has been acting CFO since December 2020. In this role, Jain will leverage her 15 years of experience in finance leadership and strategy roles to oversee Convoy's finance function. Jain joins Convoy from Cars.com, where she has been CFO since 2020. She has extensive expertise in accounting, finance and analytics, treasury, investor relations and strategic planning. Prior to joining Cars.com, she spent 10 years with Redbox/Outerwall.

Aditi Consulting

Bellevue-based Aditi Consulting appointed Paul Taylor as its first chief revenue officer. Taylor joins Aditi from Experis (formerly ettain group), where as president he helped develop project solution service offerings and expand the capabilities of the internal teams across the U.S. In addition to his experience at ettain group, Taylor also was CEO of Solving IT (privately held) and FiveTen Group (private equity-backed), where he built Salesforce integration partner and EMR implementation practices. Aditi is a global technology services company with over 25 years of consulting experience.

City of Tacoma

Neighborhood and Community Services Director Linda Stewart is leaving the city of Tacoma to assume a leadership position outside the state of Washington. Stewart joined the city as the interim neighborhood and community services director in 2017, and was appointed director later that year. With her leadership, the city has responded to two public health emergencies; managed programs, contracts and grants to bring human services to the community; and ensured continuity of essential neighborhood and community services through the pandemic. Effective April 30, Allyson Griffith will be appointed by the city manager as interim neighborhood and community services director. Griffith currently is the department's assistant director, and has been with the city for almost 15 years, serving in various positions.

Amazon

Amazon announced its commitment to supporting students' post-secondary science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education by awarding $10 million in college scholarships to 250 high school seniors. Through its Amazon Future Engineer program, the company will award $40,000 scholarships for each selected student to study at a college of their choice starting this fall. Recipients will also receive a paid internship at Amazon after their freshman year of college to gain hands-on, practical work experience with mentorship from Amazon leaders. Amazon Future Engineer is a childhood-to-career initiative designed to inspire and educate millions of students each year from underrepresented and historically underserved communities. This year's investment more than doubles the company's commitment from last year. Since 2019, Amazon has awarded $22 million to 550 scholarship recipients across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Guam. Current recipients were chosen based on a variety of criteria, including their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals, and financial need. High school seniors can apply for the scholarship when the application opens in the fall. Requirements include: completion of an advanced placement computer science course in high school; intent to pursue a computer science degree at a four-year college or university; and a teacher recommendation.
