Weiland

Kate Weiland has been promoted to partner at BuildingWork. Weiland's promotion marks a significant milestone as she is the first employee to join founder and principal Matt Aalfs in an ownership position at the seven years old firm.

As Aalfs' first hire in 2016, Weiland brings specific expertise in the design of libraries and adaptive reuse of existing buildings as well as a resume of community and civic projects of various scopes and scales. Weiland is an architect and project manager on BuildingWork's most complex projects including the Metropole Building, the award winning Skyway Library, and Town Hall Seattle, and is currently serving as the Senior Project Manager for The Seattle Public Library Green Lake Branch. Weiland regularly shares her expertise on everything from library design to retrofits and has served as a guest critic at the University of Washington Architecture Department since 2014.

FSi Engineers announced the promotion of Jessica Moyer to the position of senior associate. Moyer brings a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Seattle University and 13 years of experience. Since joining FSi in 2014, she has excelled in creating complex mechanical designs and is an integral part of the Boeing team.

Cary Kopczynski & Company (CKC) hired Hector Lasalle and Mary Shim as senior design engineers, promoted Andy Tu to senior project manager, and promoted Elaine Peng and Al Leaverenz to senior associate.

Lasalle, PE, SE, joined CKC with extensive experience in structural design and analysis for steel and concrete buildings. His current projects include the design of 410 E. Fifth St. in Austin which will become the tallest building in Texas at 1,035' in height.

Shim, PE, LEED AP, has over 16 years of domestic and international experience in structural design, analysis, and management for concrete and steel buildings. Her current projects include a three tower residential and retail development in Bellevue, and the 9th & Howell hotel tower in Seattle.

Tu, PE, SE, LEED AP, has more than twenty years of structural engineering experience, including the design and project management of residential towers, mixed-use facilities, and parking structures. His current projects include 222 Fifth Ave. N. and the Belltown 36 Tower, both in Seattle.

Peng, PE, SE, is a senior design engineer and has led the structural design of residential towers, office buildings and parking structures. She is highly experienced with concrete and steel design and is currently working on the Snoqualmie Casino expansion and multifamily residential projects in Denver.

Leaverenz is a major projects BIM specialist and has significant experience in project planning, coordination and BIM modeling for concrete, steel, and timber structures. His current projects include 410 E. Fifth St. in Austin, 1900 Broadway Tower in Oakland, and the Laguna parking structure in Los Angeles.

GGLO announced the promotion of four staff. Jessie Templeton, Tim Slazinik, Rachel Brockway, and Phillip Decker have all been promoted to senior associate.

Templeton, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, LFA, approaches architectural design from a background in environmental studies and urban planning. She is the firm's embodied carbon specialist and part of the design equity initiative, which focuses on intelligent material and system solutions and building relationships with the people who will ultimately inhabit the space's the firm designs. Templeton graduated with a Masters in Architecture from the University of Oregon and has worked on single and multi-family residential projects, hospitality, mixed-use developments, and as a planning consultant.

Slazinik, PLA, ASLA, LEED green associate, brings a strong background of public engagement and civic design experience. His work includes landscapes of all scales and programs. Slazinik's experience runs the gamut of scales and project types, from health centers and middle schools to rooftop farms and trail systems. Outside of his project work, he serves in a national and local roles with the American Society of Landscape Architects, and has been a featured speaker at the ASLA Annual Conferences.

Brockway, senior associate NCIDQ, brings over 20 years of industry experience to GGLO with a strong background in hospitality and workplace design. She possesses a profound love of art, materials and finishes, and believes they are the most essential element in creating a highly sought-after “authentic experience”.

Decker, senior associate PLA, ASLA, has a deep appreciation for integrated, site-specific design that is both ecologically responsible and authentic to each and every site. Prior to joining GGLO, Decker worked on a diverse set of private, public and institutional projects throughout the northwest, northeast and Asia. He has broad experience in project types that include residential, master planning communities, public plazas, stream restoration, retail lifestyle center and public and private schools.

GGLO has promoted four staff members, Alex Kenton, Lindsey Draves, Greg Stacy, and Katie McGough, to associate.

Kenton earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon. Since joining GGLO, he has assisted with projects ranging from multi-block master plans to prefab mass timber housing units.

Draves has been involved in all aspects of the project process. From leading client visioning sessions, programming and space planning to finalizing a project through design development, construction documents and construction administration. She has worked with project teams ranging in sizes from teams of three, to teams of fifteen or more. She's worked on projects from 1,500 USF to 100,000+ USF in mostly tenant fit-out, with some new construction. Additionally, Draves has worked on LEED certified projects (and projects still working towards LEED certification) and puts sustainability at the forefront of her design process. She has accreditations in LEED and WELL, as well as a Masters in Sustainable Interior Environments.

Stacy began his career in architecture from a non-traditional means. Growing up as a graffiti artist, his path to architecture started with a background in City, Metropolitan Planning at University of Utah. He then went on to earn his Master of Architecture from University of Oregon.

McGough has a wide range of experience within the multifamily—affordable, market rate, and senior living—office, retail, and healthcare sectors. She focuses on the design integration of the building's form and façade with the overall context of the site and program. McGough earned her Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture from Washington State University.

Morrison Hershfield

Morrison Hershfield welcomed several new staff members in 2022. Jordan Armstrong and Larry Liu joined the firm as Building Science Consultants, and Austin Bournique joined as a CAD Technician.

Armstrong is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a degree in Civil Engineering and has recent experience with a Seattle building envelope consulting firm.

Liu is a recent graduate of the University of Waterloo with an Environmental Engineering degree and has prior experience as an intern with MH.

Bournique is a graduate of the Lake Washington Institute of Technology.

Recent promotions at the firm have been awarded to Sadie Mansour, Harry Petersen, Elisa Cheung, and Emile Wang.

Mansour was promoted to building science consultant III and has been instrumental in performing u-value energy code calculations.

Petersen was promoted to building science consultant III and acts as the office safety director and leads efforts on below grade waterproofing.

Cheung was promoted to building science consultant IV and team lead. Cheung leads Morrison Hershfield's intern program.

Wang has been promoted to building science consultant V and oversees project management procedures for the office.

In other news at the firm, Nathan Seney and Robin Kotulka became recent company principals and shareholders. Seney leads MH's restoration projects. Kotulka is a team lead for the design group. Kotulka's work includes the production of high quality building envelope drawings.

PACE Engineers has eight new associate stockholders. Deneise Kopetzky, Sam Chapman, PE, Pat Kohlbrenner, PE, Pam Cobley, ENV SP, Bill Hawkins, PLS, Ben Montgomery, Stephanie Welch, PE, and Matt Pillsbury are the new shareholders.

In a news release PACE said that “these individuals have shown a strong desire for personal success and make decisions based on the best interest of their clients and the firm. They are champions for efficient processes and productive outcomes and find optimized solutions for PACE's clients.”
