SSHD plans affordable units where iconic ‘Bird' house now roosts

Could it fit on a trailer? Could the Bird and its companion be relocated? So many questions!

What is the SSHD? We, the voters, created the Seattle Social Housing Developer back in 2023, via Initiative 135. The publicly funded agency made its first big splash this summer, when it acquired a 150-unit apartment building near Pike Place Market. That was a nearly $61 million deal for the Elara, to operate as a mixed-income community.
