RENTON — Among the various business lines of Segale Properties is the humble gravel pit. And among those smaller pits, or quarries, is a 14-acre expanse at 301 Monroe Ave. N.E. That's east of town, near Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
Segale has owned the Upper Balch Pit for decades, and it now has R-10 zoning. With no architect yet attached, Segale initiated plans with the city this February to upzone the pit slightly. The proposed new R-14 zoning would allow 179 possible townhouses.
