California town rejects $135M sewer system

LOS OSOS, Calif. (AP) — Voters in this small Central Coast town, which regional officials say has outgrown its septic tanks and is polluting its groundwater, recalled three officials who had supported a costly sewer project and replaced them with candidates opposed to it.

Stan Gustafson, Gordon Hensley and Richard LeGros, all of whom sit on a community services board, were kicked out of office Tuesday by a razor-thin margin. They were replaced by John Fouche, Chuck Cesena, and Steven Senet, who are expected to vote to halt the project and start a new one.
