89-year-old ski resort founder selling out

  • Speculative buyers for the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area include Intrawest, the Walt Disney Co. and actor Robert Redford.
  • MAMMOTH LAKES, Calif. (AP) — Legendary outdoorsman Dave McCoy, who founded the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, is selling his controlling stake in the popular winter resort in the Eastern Sierra after 68 years, according to a statement from the resort.

    The company's 3,000 workers were notified Wednesday of the sale, which includes the resort's 4,000 acres of ski areas, 185 trails served by 35 lifts, a lodge and more than a dozen retail stores and dining venues.
