Celebration of life for Gordon Walker

Renowned Seattle architect Gordon Walker will be honored at a celebration of life scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Mithun's studio at Pier 56, 1201 Alaskan Way #200.

A celebration of life will be held for Gordon Walker at Mithun’s studio at the Seattle waterfront.

Walker was born in 1939 in Iowa, studied at the University of Idaho, and after graduation moved to Seattle where he went to work for Ralph Anderson. Walker became renowned for many contributions to Seattle's landscape, not the least the Raff House, a fortress-type home of concrete blocks built in 1969 on Queen Anne.

Gordon Walker established his reputation in Seattle with the Raff House in 1969.

In 1970 he and Jim Olson formed Olson/Walker Architects (which would later become Olson Kundig). The Pike and Virginia building earned the firm its first AIA Seattle Honor Award. Walker had a stint at NBBJ in San Francisco before returning to private practice in Seattle and as a consulting principal at Mithun.

Walker passed away surrounded by family on Aug. 25 at his home on Orcas Island.
