Megatrak system on Grove crane improves steering, performance

The Grove GMK6300B all terrain crane is being used to set a 60,000 pound steel structure at the Pacific View Mall in Ventura, Calif. For this job, T&T Truck & Crane Service configured their crane with 110,000 pounds of counterweight, 180 feet of main boom and is setting the steel structure over the side at a load radius of 50 feet. The crane has a 197 foot MegaForm Twin-Lock boom along with a 200 foot luffing jib for maximum tip height of 374 feet. Counterweight sections totaling 222,000 pounds can be installed using the standard hydraulic counterweight installation/removal system.

The Grove electronic crane operating system allows the operator to program the required boom configuration and the system then automatically controls unpinning and extension of the boom sections to the selected boom configuration. The automatic process is reversed to retract the boom.

The exclusive MegaTrak system on the crane provides better steering control and performance both on and off the road. The independent wheel suspension provides uniform wheel load distribution on uneven ground. Ground clearance can be increased for off-road maneuverability. All wheel steering provides improved maneuverability.
