Community Health Plan of Washington

Battersby

Community Health Plan of Washington (CHPW), a not-for-profit insurance carrier offering Apple Health (Medicaid), Medicare Advantage, and Individual & Family Plans on the health exchange, hired Stuart Battersby as chief financial officer. As a member of CHPW's Executive Leadership Team, Battersby will collaborate on the strategic goals and initiatives for CHPW, and its parent company Community Health Network of Washington, overseeing all budgetary and fiscal responsibilities. Battersby is a CPA with more than 15 years of experience in many health care settings, including physician groups, health care startups, and a national Medicaid health plan. In the CFO role, Battersby will also oversee all forecasting and budgeting functions, accounting, population analytics and actuarial activities, among other responsibilities. Battersby succeeds Stacy Kessel, who retired after 17 years with CHPW. Battersby served as COO and CFO for Amerigroup Washington, Anthem and ended his tenure as president and CEO of their Medicaid Health Plan in 2019. Battersby most recently served as CFO for Firefly Health, a virtual advanced primary care services company, where he led all financial responsibilities as well as product strategy and development. Prior to that, he was CFO at Sidecar Health. Battersby holds a CPA Certification in Washington, and received his MBA from the University of Denver.

Kestra Medical Technologies

Cohen

Kestra Medical Technologies, a privately held wearable medical device and digital healthcare company, named Raymond Cohen to the board of directors as a new independent board director. Cohen is an accredited public company director with more than 40 years of life sciences industry experience. He currently serves as CEO and board member at Irvine, CA-based Axonics, a global medtech company Cohen cofounded in late 2013 and took public in October 2018. Earlier this year, Axonics agreed to be acquired by Boston Scientific for $3.7 billion. Cohen also serves as an independent director of SoniVie, a clinical-stage company developing a device treatment for hypertension and BiVACOR, a clinical-stage company developing a Total Artificial Heart. Cohen received the 2024 MedTech MVP Award and was also named Businessperson of the Year by the Orange County Business Journal. In 2021, Cohen received a lifetime achievement award from SoCal Bio for his four decades of work in medical technology. In 2020, Cohen was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young for the Southwest U.S.

Molina Healthcare of Washington



Molina Healthcare of Washington recently presented $5,000 to Unity Care Northwest to help ensure access to quality medical, dental, mental and behavioral health care for 24,000 Whatcom County residents, primarily those experiencing financial hardships. Jay Fathi is plan president of Molina Healthcare of Washington. Funds will support programs including: Hand Up for Health, for items and services including blood pressure monitors or compression socks; Mobile Dental, for dental exams and appointment scheduling for students in Whatcom County schools; Extend A Hand, to cover the cost of prescriptions; a library of online yoga and QigGong classes, plus a Dietitian Kitchen video series for healthy meal options; and The Way Station, for health and hygiene services to unhoused community members. Molina Healthcare of Washington has been providing government-funded health care for over 20 years. Unity Care NW is a local, non-profit health care provider that is part of a national network of community health centers.

Ba Sa Restaruant

Linda Nguyen, the youngest member of the Nguyen family, is now chef and general manager at Ba Sa Restaurant. She joins sibling chefs Trinh and Thai, who are now spending the majority of their time at Ramie, their new restaurant in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Nguyen started working at Ba Sa in 2021. She begin in the dish pit, and eventually worked every station in the kitchen. She also trained in front of house operation procedures in preparation for taking on the general manager duties. Opened in September of 2019, Ba Sa is located on Bainbridge Island, serving modern Vietnamese food that showcases local products found in the Pacific Northwest.

Redmond Police Department

The Redmond Police Department recently renewed its Certified Autism Center designation certification, continuing efforts to provide officers with knowledge and training to assist and communicate with autistic and sensory-sensitive community members. In 2022, the department became the first in Washington to earn the certification, which was awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. Additionally, the Redmond Police Department launched a Take Me Home program in June for families with loved ones who have cognitive or developmental disabilities in case they go missing or experience an emergency. The program is a registry of vulnerable individuals to assist first responders in reuniting people with disabilities with their caregivers.

Brabec

Kirkland-based Compass Construction recently hired Bo Brabec as a field assistant and promoted Derek Uchiumi, Logan Brooks and Jeff Seeb. Brabec joined Compass in March of this year and is part of the Simon Northgate project team. He graduated in 2023 from CWU with a B.S. in Business Administration. Uchiumi and Brooks, both promoted to project managers, started at Compass as senior project engineers. Uchiumi, a University of Washington alum with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, joined Compass in April 2021, and now works on the Simon Northgate project. Brooks, who graduated from CWU's Construction Management program in 2018, was hired in September 2021 and is also assigned to the Simon Northgate project. Seeb has been promoted to senior project manager — affordable housing. Since joining Compass in 2016, he has steadily advanced and is currently leading Bryant Manor, Compass' first affordable housing project in Seattle. Seeb completed the HDC Leadership Cohort and is an active participant in Youth Build's mentorship program and the Subcontractor Minority Alliance. He graduated from Montana State University in 2013 with a B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology.

Perkins Coie announced that Mike Paisner has joined the firm as a partner in the Seattle office. Paisner brings almost two decades of experience handling significant disputes, investigations, and other legal matters in private practice, government, and a series of senior in-house roles. He joins the firm from The Boeing Co., where he served most recently as vice president for international disputes, insured matters, and bid protests. His experience includes supervising numerous major complex litigations and domestic and international arbitrations, preparing written submissions and leading in-person presentations to government enforcement agencies and regulators, and serving in a senior compliance role. He has also handled and argued significant appeals before multiple federal circuit courts. Prior to joining Boeing, Paisner worked at a law firm in Washington, D.C., representing clients in appellate and trial court litigation, as well as in connection with legislative and regulatory matters. Earlier in his career, he served as an attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Legal Counsel, and clerked for the Hon. Dennis G. Jacobs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.  At Perkins Coie, Paisner will focus his practice on critical litigation and arbitration, including business, product liability, and other types of complex disputes.

Bellevue-based general contractor Rafn promoted Steve Buerk to business development / preconstruction director; Ryan Meno to estimating director and senior project manager; Art Salas to superintendent; Chris Taylor to superintendent; Mario Cuadros to assistant superintendent; and Jen Oliver to senior project manager. Buerk has been with Rafn for 24 years and now leads the company's preconstruction planning efforts while also working on business development. He began his career as a project engineer and has managed projects as both a superintendent and a project manager. Meno has been with Rafn for 26 years working from project engineer to senior project manager on some of the company's most iconic projects. In addition to managing projects, as estimating director Meno leads the review of all company estimates, resource scheduling, and coordination of peer reviews to ensure estimates are consistent and complete. Salas, is a 24-year Rafn team member. He recently finished the Flourish on Rainier Apartments building as an assistant superintendent and has now joined the Redmond Way Apartments project team as a superintendent. Taylor has moved up the ranks at Rafn over the past 32 years and is now a superintendent, running multiple projects on UW's Greek Row this summer. Cuadros, with 17 years at Rafn, was an member of the Bush School Gracemont Building renovation team as a senior project engineer. He now joins the Pacific Apartments renovation project team as an assistant superintendent. Oliver has been a project engineer at Rafn for 5 years and is currently finishing up The Teel apartments at Green Lake Village as a senior project manager.

P2S promoted Mikhail Fuks to vice president. Fuks has 18 years of experience working on large, complex projects, primarily for healthcare and life science facilities. He has been working at P2S for nine years, growing the firm's healthcare presence in southern California. In his new position, he will expand his influence along the West Coast and into the science and technology sector, and provide strategic planning, team growth, technical excellence, and client service support.
