Queen

Portland-based Standard Insurance (The Standard) promoted Graeme Queen to assistant vice president of policy administration transformation and supplemental operations. Queen joined The Standard in 2008 as an IT manager. He served in a number of IT leadership roles and co-led the Voluntary Products program, which introduced The Standard's Supplemental products to the market. Subsequently, Queen led the Strategic Account Services department. Before joining the company, Queen led an application development team at PacifiCorp and has served in various IT, business and customer service roles. Additionally, Michelle Hughes has joined the company as assistant vice president of supplier management and governance. In her new role, Hughes will lead the company's procurement, supplier governance and business process outsourcing teams. Prior to joining The Standard, Hughes was at USAA, where she served in various leadership and procurement roles for 15 years. Her procurement career began in the Air Force, where she was a contracting specialist.

Carney Badley Spellman elected Randy Johnson as a shareholder. Johnson joined Carney in November 2015. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Washington State University, and graduated from Seattle University School of Law in May 2015. As a law student, Johnson worked for Carney Badley Spellman as a summer associate in 2013, spent the summer of 2014 in Olympia as an extern under the direction of Supreme Court Commissioner Narda Pierce, and in 2015 competed on Seattle University's 2015 National Appellate Advocacy Team, which won an ABA Regional Championship and advanced to the knock-out rounds of the National Competition. Johnson has experience litigating a variety of issues involving real estate development, commercial lease disputes, construction disputes, claims of unfair business practices, and personal injury. In addition to general litigation, Johnson is working to expand his practice into areas of law focused on helping businesses protect their market identity and intellectual property rights related to trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

City of Tacoma

At-Large Council Member Kristina Walker has been appointed to serve as Tacoma's deputy mayor in 2023. Walker currently is chair to the city council's infrastructure, planning and sustainability committee, vice chair of the government performance and finance committee, vice chair of the Pierce Transit board, vice chair of the joint municipal action committee, and on the Sound Transit board. Walker has served as an at-large council member since 2019. She succeeds Catherine Ushka.

Seattle music station MOViN 92.5, announced a four-year contract extension of its morning show “Brooke & Jeffrey in the Morning”, featuring Brooke Fox, Young Jeffrey, Jose Bolanos, newest member, Alexis Fuller and producer Steve Boyd. “Brooke & Jeffrey in the Morning” airs weekday mornings from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on MOViN 92.5 and is syndicated by Premiere Networks, airing on more than 50 stations nationwide. 5G Americas, a wireless cellular industry trade association, announced Neville Ray, president of technology at T-Mobile US has been re-elected as chairman of the 5G Americas Board of Governors for 2023. Barbara Baffer, Ericsson, vice president, government & policy advocacy has been re-elected as treasurer. Ray is responsible for the management and development of T-Mobile's wireless network, the company's information technology services, and technology operations. He has more than 30 years of experience building and operating wireless networks in the US and around the world. Ray has been a member of the 5G Americas Board for more than 12 years and previously served two multi-year terms as chairman. Baffer has been with Ericsson for 32 years working in several different roles. She leads Ericsson's regulatory and legislative advocacy efforts in the U.S. and Canada. In addition, she serves on the executive committee of Tech Titans. Headquartered in Bellevue, 5G Americas is an industry trade organization composed of telecommunications service providers and manufacturers. The organization's mission is to facilitate and advocate for the advancement and transformation of LTE, 5G and beyond throughout the Americas.

Bellevue-based CoreStack, a global multi-cloud governance provider, announced that Sanjeev Arya has joined the CoreStack leadership team as managing director – Europe. Arya will be charged with expanding CoreStack's global presence by developing relationships with customers and strategic partners across Europe. Northwest Kidney Centers has named Sarah Cordeiro vice president of business development, Liberty Stansberry vice president of human resources, and has promoted Liz McNamara to chief administrative officer and Stephanie Pitts to vice president of marketing and communications. Cordeiro has worked in healthcare for 14 years, serving in senior-level business and growth development for numerous organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest. In her role at Northwest Kidney Centers, she will manage strategic partnerships and work with joint venture partner, Satellite Healthcare, to identify, develop and pursue new growth opportunities. Stansberry, joined Northwest Kidney Centers in November. She has more than 20 years' human resources experience in non-profit, legal and environmental consulting, and senior housing. In her role at Northwest Kidney Centers, Stansberry will oversee all human resources functions. As chief administrative officer, McNamara will continue to lead the operations of Northwest Kidney Centers' three service lines – in-center, acute services and home – and will now oversee Certificate of Need applications, regulatory compliance and joint venture activities. McNamara has been with Northwest Kidney Centers since 2018, serving as chief nursing officer and vice president of patient services. Pitts was recently promoted from director to vice president of marketing and communications. Prior to joining Northwest Kidney Centers in August 2021, she worked as a communications leader for private companies in the construction space for 11 years. She will take on an expanded marketing and communications leadership role in her new position. Founded in Seattle in 1962, Northwest Kidney Centers is a regional, not-for-profit, community-based provider of kidney dialysis, public health education and research into the causes and treatments of chronic kidney disease.

Foster Garvey announced the elevation of five lawyers to principal, effective Jan. 1. This includes three lawyers in the firm's Seattle office, Devra Cohen, Alyssa Melter and Kinnon Williams. Cohen is a member of Foster Garvey's Litigation team, representing clients in environmental litigation and business disputes and complex commercial matters, at the trial court and appellate levels. She has experience before all levels of federal and state courts. Cohen has an active pro bono practice. Prior to joining the firm, she was a judicial law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and for the Washington State Supreme Court. She earned her J.D. (Order of the Coif) from the University of Washington School of Law. Melter focuses on the resolution of labor issues for both public and private sector employers. Additionally, Melter has experience in grievance arbitrations and settlement negotiations, unfair labor practice proceedings and related appeals. Prior to joining the firm, she was a judicial law clerk for the Washington State Supreme Court. She earned her J.D. (summa cum laude) from Gonzaga University School of Law. Williams focuses on assisting public entities and private property owners in eminent domain and municipal law matters, handling negotiations and litigation. He provides special legal counsel to local governments and is the co-author of the 2010 Washington State Bar Association Real Property Deskbook Chapter on eminent domain and will release the updated chapter in 2023. Williams is a board member of the Washington State Bar Foundation and has served in a variety of roles on the King County Bar Association. He holds a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law. Foster Garvey has offices in Seattle, New York and Spokane.
